Lion’s PicNic Synopsis

by Bill Brenner and Flash Alexander

Time: 5:30 PM (unless you were late like Flash)
Place: City Park Shelter 7 (the best one of course)

Lions Jim Condon and Neal Hopkins arranged for picture perfect weather when they put together a great picnic, and along with their families grilled the best brats and burgers this side of the Poudre river. The club had to provide its own grill for a pile of food this large; the Shelter 7 grill would have collapsed under the weight of it all. With such good organization and so many other Lions and Lion’s family members pitching in, there was no shortage of buns, (lifetime supply courtesy of Herb Hoskins) condiments, side dishes and desserts!

Bolo TossOutside of eating and drinking, the only activities were bolo toss and the three legged race. Bolo toss* is a game one generally encounters in a senior trailer park or group camp out. It is nice to see the young get sucked in to the enjoyment it provides. Simply put, you toss a Bolo (piece of rope with a golf ball attached at both ends) toward a Ladder (usually made from PVC plastic pipes) with the hope that it will wrap around and cling to one of the individual rungs on the ladder. 3 Legged FlashWhich rung of the ladder your bolo clings to ultimately determine your score, or whether your toss simply “cancels out” your challenger’s. In contrast, the three legged race was run solo by Flash Alexander himself whereupon Lion’s president Bob Kitchell immediately disqualified him as he only used two of his three legs.

Notes: The skinny dip was canceled as the City Park pool was closed for cleaning following the dog swim held for two day prior.
